How to read it
Each line is one expiry. If the put side sits higher than the call side, the market pays more for downside protection; a symmetric smile means both tails are priced alike. Switch to strikes to read the same curve in price terms.
Definitions
- Smile
- Implied volatility across strikes or deltas for one expiry. Its shape shows how the market prices large moves.
- Skew
- The difference between put-side and call-side implied volatility at the same distance from the money.
- Strike
- The price at which the option can be exercised.
